Notes: Describe what conflicts you think would arise if settlers moved into this land.

There would be lack of resources because the settlers would use them for themselves, and there would be no space because of the population of both settlers and Native Americans. Lastly the Natives would not have freedom and settlers would take them all over.

Slide 5:
Notes: How do you think the painting "American Progress" by John Gast tells the story of what happened when the settlers moved into the Great Plains?

It tells the story by showing herds or animals and Indians run away from their home land and the angel with the string wire leads them across the Great Plains to settle down and to start living their life.

Conflict Over Western Lands

Final Assignment:

I am a Native American and settlers are moving into my people’s home land. I mean we have about 16,000,000 acres of land but we can’t share it with the settlers because we need it for our homes and food. I really do not like how the settlers are moving in because if they do they will take all our resources and we will have to give them all our land and they will do what they want and in their perspective they’ll ruin this land for both us and them. The settlers have no resource and if they did move in we would have to move if they take all the land and then we would have to transform land into farms and towns for our people. We would care about our ownership because we could make our own money for ourselves and the settlers would have nothing.
